    Three-Day Basic Commercial Mediation Training

    8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Queens County Bar Association 90-35 148th Street, Jamaica, NY 11435

    This program presents a special opportunity for those interested in taking a three day Commercial Mediation training, which fulfills three of the five days required under Part 146 of the Rules of the Chief Administrative Judge for service on the NY State Supreme Court's Commercial Mediation panel.

    The Unified Court System and Queens Bar Association have subsidized a low cost training which will be held at the Queens County Bar Association (90-35 148th Street, Jamaica, NY 11435) from March 3rd - 5th 2020.

    SIMEON H. BAUM, ESQ.: Mr. Baum has practiced law in New York City for over 30 years as a commercial and general civil litigator, and has served as a neutral since the early 1990s. He is a principal of the firm of Simeon H. Baum, Esq., and President of Resolve Mediation Services, Inc. (www.mediators.com). He was the founding Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section, and has conducted over 1,000 mediations, including numerous commercial disputes. Mr. Baum has taught, lectured, and written extensively on ADR, including teaching “Fundamentals of ADR” at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Development, and negotiation, mediation, and processes of dispute resolution at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He was selected as "Lawyer of the Year" for ADR in New York by Best Lawyers for 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2020.

     

    AN OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE:

    This three-day course will present a thorough examination of mediation principles and techniques. The program faculty will analyze the structure of a typical mediation, highlight ethical issues that may arise in mediation, and explore solutions for generating movement and overcoming impasse.

    We will explore differences between facilitative and evaluative or directive approaches in mediation, from both practical and ethical perspectives, and will discuss advantages and disadvantages of these styles. The instructors will focus on experiential learning through role plays and dialogue to help prepare you for the real world of commercial mediation.

    24 CLE credits (6.0 Professional Practice, 12.5 Skills, 4.0 Ethics, 1.5 Law Practice Management). Transitional Seminar– Valid for All Attorneys. ACCREDITATION: QCBA has been certified by the NYS CLE Board as an Accredited CLE Provider in NYS, 10/2016-10/2019. Application for Renewal has been filed and is currently pending.

    This course is approved under Part 146 by the New York State Unified Court System’s Office of ADR Programs and satisfies Part 146 requirements with at least 24 hours of basic commercial mediation training. However, completion of the course does not guarantee acceptance onto the NYS court roster.

    Cost: $300.00 / Includes all course materials. Snacks and light lunch will be provided.
    The NYS Unified Court System’s Office is funding the presenters’ costs. The QCBA is charging for material reproduction, staffing & overhead for the 3-day seminar. This is being offered to members at a substantial discount to other venues.

    Cancellation Notice: Notice of cancellation must be received no later than one week before training in order to obtain a refund for registration fees. Must attend all 3-days. No partial credit.
