Guest Lecturer at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering
Mr. Baum was honored to receive an invitation to be a guest lecturer for John Osborn’s Dispute Resolution and Avoidance class at NYU Polytechnic. In a classroom filled with experienced architects and engineers, Mr. Baum led the group through a lesson in how Mediation can provide a beneficial alternative to standard commercial litigation. With training through role-play simulation, the students were able to get a first-hand glimpse at not only the challenges presented in real life conflicts but the opportunities available for handling matters through non-traditional dispute resolution techniques.
A major takeaway of this class was the growing role of alternative dispute resolution. A class that once may have been found only as a Law School Elective is now popping up in a variety of locales. That one would find a dispute resolution course in a typically hard-science curriculum gives credence to its ever increasing role in handling the conflicts of the modern world.
