    Confessions of a Mediator

    University of Buffalo Law School

While in Buffalo to present a three-day commercial mediation training, Mr. Baum stopped by Buffalo Law School to speak to Steve Sugarman’s "Mediation Theory and Practice" class.  Fueled by a welcome reception featuring the ubiquitous college staples of pizza and beer, the 30 or so law students made for an interactive and lively discussion.  Mr. Baum provided insights into the scope of the mediation field, explained how and why he ended up in the ADR arena, discussed mediator types and orientations, gave tips for representatives, introduced the Tao philosophy on mediation, and told a few war stories to boot.

Steve had his students write about the presentation for the following class, and he was nice enough to share a couple with us. You can find two of the students’ pieces at the following links: Simeon Baum: Confessions of a Mediator and Writing Assignment 2

As you will see from the photos below, the lovely evening at UB Law School was a great way to kick-off the week in Buffalo.
