2 Day Advanced Commercial Mediation Training - Spring 2025

    8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Fordham University School of Law; 150 West 62nd Street New York, NY 10023

We completed our Part 146-approved, 2-day Advanced Commercial Mediation training.  It was a delight and an honor to spend time with all our training participants and guests who brought unique insights and experience, generating stimulating dialogue and lively and entertaining exercises and role-plays.

    Thank you to our Hosts:
For starters, we must thank our hosts at Fordham University School of Law for their extraordinary hospitality. We give special thanks to my co-trainer Paul Radvany and his assistant Brennan Hawsey for their support with the training and the facilities; to Shanelle Holley from Office of Public Programs & CLE and @Ray Nunez, Philip Kim & Joshua Hornung from the tech team; to the Aramark Services caterers; and to all the others at Fordham Law School for making us feel at home and generously providing their support to this training.
Thank you to the New York State Bar Association
We would like to thank the New York State Bar Association Dispute Resolution Law Section and our incoming Chair, William Crosby; and all those on NYSBA's staff, starting with Mercedes Peno, Continuing Legal Education Program Manager; @Melva Bigger; Pat Stockli, Director, CLE, Law Practice Management, & Sections and Meeting Services; Kathy Suchocki, Associate Executive Director of NYSBA; and the entire NYSBA team. The NYSBA staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

    Thank you to Our Facilitators:
Every year, we hear from program participants that the role plays and facilitators' feedback during panel discussions were perhaps their favorite part of this experience, and this year is no exception. We cannot sufficiently thank our highly experienced mediators who shared their time and insight with us for each of our two major role plays: Mary Austin, Alan Sacks, William Bierce, Bart Eagle, Pamela Esterman, Tom Wiegand, Chris Fladgate, Gary Shaffer, Chris McDonald, Richard Janvey.

Thank you to the Court, et al.: New York State Unified Court System
We must thank our kick-off speaker Hon. Robert Reed, New York State Supreme Court Justice in the Commercial Division for his inspiring opening remarks, reflecting a deep and comprehensive understanding of the mediation process; the benefits and opportunities it offers to courts, counsel and users; and the satisfaction derived from serving in the mediator's role.  We are grateful to Irini Bekhit, ADR coordinator of the Supreme Court of Richmond County, for her comprehensive descriptions of ADR activities.

    Special Thanks:
Special thanks must go to Ia Kurkhuli of Simeon H. Baum, Esq. Resolve Mediation Services, Inc., who worked even over nights and weekends to make this happen. I would like to thank my mentor, Steve Hochman who briefly joined us for this training. We would also like to thank Evan Spelfogel for his continued support as our program co-chair. We thank Lucia Pinto, as well, for being with us the week before her return to Timor-Leste.
