Two - Day Advanced Commercial Mediation Training

On May 4th, we completed our Part 146 approved 2-day Advanced Commercial Mediation training.  It was a delight and honor spending time with all of our trainees and guests.

    Thank you to our Hosts:
For starters, we must thank our hosts at Debevoise & Plimpton for their extraordinary hospitality. We appreciate the responsiveness of former Chief Judge DiFiore's ADR Task Force Chair, John Kiernan -- formerly co-Chair of Debevoise's litigation department and past member of its Management Committee -- to the request of our New York State Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section Chair, Noah Hanft to provide a forum for this training. We give special thanks to Alethea Rabineau, Keisha Sinclair, and Mary Legnetti for their support with scheduling and the facilities; to Eric Turqman and Sean and David of his tech team; to the Restaurant Associates caterers; and to all the others at Debevoise for making us feel at home and generously providing all of the firm's support of this training.

    Thank you to NYSBA:
We would like to thank the New York State Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section and our Chair Noah Hanft ; and all those on NYSBA's staff, starting with Simone Smith, Continuing Legal Education Program Manager; Pat Stockli, Director, CLE, Law Practice Management, & Sections and Meeting Services; Kathy Suchocki, Associate Executive Director of NYSBA , Melva Bigger, and the entire NYSBA team. The NYSBA staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

    Thank you to Our Facilitators:
We cannot sufficiently thank the highly experienced mediators who shared their time and insight with us for each of our three major role plays: Richard Janvey, Norman Feit, Gary ShafferA. RENE HOLLYERTom WiegandHolly H. WeissChris McDonaldSteven Bierman, Gary Bowitch, Alan SacksThomas Rossi.

Thank you to the Court, et al.:
We must thank our kick-off speaker, Hon. Margaret A. Chan, New York State Supreme Court Justice in the Commercial Division for her inspiring opening remarks. We are grateful for the longstanding support of Lisa Courtney, UCS Statewide ADR Coordinator; and to Glen Parker Associate Attorney in the UCS Statewide ADR Office for his comprehensive description of ADR activities in that court, including its Commercial Division and presumptive panels.

    Special Thanks:
Special thanks must go to Ia Kurkhuli and Ryder Fleming Jones of Resolve Mediation Services, Inc., who worked even over nights and weekends to make this happen. I would like to thank my mentor, Steve Hochman, for his support and insights into pragmatic and effective approaches to commercial mediation.
